What Is
Sustainable Seafood?

Our Commitment to Sustainable Seafood

Sustainable seafood represents our dedication to protecting the ocean’s rich ecosystems, ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy its bounty. We prioritize sourcing products that are produced with careful consideration for environmental, social, and economic impact.

  • Environmental Responsibility

Ensuring that marine resources are managed sustainably and that our precious ecosystems remain healthy and resilient.

  • Social Responsibility

Protecting the human rights of everyone involved in fishing and processing, while ensuring a safe, fair, and equitable working environment.

  • Economic Responsibility

Ensuring that everyone across the supply chain—including fishermen, distributors, and processors—can achieve fair profitability and build sustainable, long-term businesses.

Environmental - Economic - Social

True sustainability in the seafood industry is only achieved when all of these elements—environmental, social, and economic—are held in perfect balance.

The Importance of Sustainability:

Why Maruhira Kawamura Suisan is Taking Action?

The Future of Our Oceans: A Legacy for Generations

Today, global marine resources face a critical turning point. With more than one third of the world's fisheries overexploited and less than 10% showing a surplus, the impact of IUU (Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated) fishing is devastating ecosystems and threatening the livelihoods of local fishing communities.

At Maruhira Kawamura Suisan, we are driven by a singular, powerful vision: to preserve the abundance of Hakodate’s waters for our children and grandchildren. To achieve this, we actively champion sustainable seafood initiatives. By taking the lead in purchasing premium quality, fresh fish at fair prices and delivering them to chefs and clients who recognize their true worth, we believe we can protect the lives of our fishermen and ensure the ocean’s vitality for the future.

From the bountiful seas of Hakodate to the tables of tomorrow. Guided by our sustainable procurement policy and walking hand in hand with our local community, we are committed to passing down a thriving ocean to the next generation.
